Queens Park, Toowoomba

Construction type: Government Facilities, Sports & Recreation
Project type: Construction
Region: Toowoomba

The recently completed ‘Vera LaCaze Park’, was the final stage of the long awaited ‘Queens Park Masterplan’. Positioned in the heart of Toowoomba and a location that is frequented by many locals and tourists. There was an ambitious plan to complete this project before the commencement of the annual Carnival of Flowers festival which utilises Queens Park as the centre stage for the events.
The site was listed on the Queensland Heritage Register as a site of ‘Significance to the heritage of Toowoomba’. Archaeologists and specialist Arborists needed to be consulted throughout the project’s lifecycle to help preserve the site and a handful of items discovered during the works that will require long term curation in a museum. Bryant installed the Bluestone cladding in this project, which was an important component of the Heritage requirements. A special mention to Darryl Green – Site manager, who hand laid each piece of bluestone in this project, which in time may become heritage listed itself.
